Forklift Trainers Is Not Just For The Construction Industry

Many companies have their own forklift trainers to help the new operator to get acquainted with the machine and become accustomed to its movements. It is not uncommon for them to have a forklift driver or two to assist them, but in most cases, forklift trainers are left available on site to allow the trainee to use the machine. In some cases, the forklift training company may send one of their forklift trainers out to assess the trainee’s progress. Usually, the trainers are only used for one or two days at a time. It is imperative that employers always follow OSHA standards when training their employees. A well trained forklift operator can save an employer thousands of dollars in liability and productivity costs, because they do not have to pay out for costly accidents that would have been prevented by proper training. OSHA regulations outline exactly what employers are not allowed to do when it comes to the operation of forklifts, and any worker who works for an employer is required to know and follow these rules. In addition, OSHA has specific guidelines for forklift trainers to follow, including knowing and following the guidelines that they lay out for them.

Some forklift trainers will work to certify forklift operators in a specific area, such as around the warehouse or factory floor. OSHA will not specify which areas a trainee must learn how to operate, only that they must be able to maneuver the machine around the job site safely and without incident. There is a lot to learn about operating this type of equipment, and it takes time to learn it and apply it on the job site. A good forklift operator will be well trained and pass an OSHA certification test before being put into this job classification. Employers who place their employees into the field based upon certification will be much safer for their workers, and they will actually save money in the long run because they will not need to pay out for employee’s compensation if their employee’s are injured on the job site.
